Welcome to the home page for the Wood Creek Junior Optimist Club.
Wood Creek will be in need of a Mentor for the 2012-2013 school year. Mentoring the Junior Optimists is a rewarding job. They are a great group of kindergarten through fourth graders who are eager to help others. The time the Mentor puts in can vary, but typically, it's only a few hours a month.
The Junior Optimists at Wood Creek have chosen, planned, and executed several projects over the last two years:
During the 2011-2012 school year, the group helped the Westland location of the Michigan Humane Society by collecting supplies from their wish list, they cleaned their school playground, and in conjunction with Warner Upper Elementary School's Junior Optimists, served dinner to the Farmington Firefighters.
During the 2010-2011 school year, Wood Creek's Junior Optimists collected clothes for the Detroit Rescue Mission, sold raffle tickets to benefit the Farmington-Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth and Families, collected crayons for Sweet Dreamzzz, collected electronic waste to benefit Beaumont Hospital's Speech Pathology Department, and cleaned the playground at Wood Creek.
As you can tell, they are a very busy group, but the number of projects that they take on largely depends on the group and the Mentor. Even one or two projects per school year would be enough. Or, they can do more than they took on the first two years that the program was available at Wood Creek.
There are several project ideas located on our forum. If you child or group needs ideas for a project, this is a great place to start. Also, please feel free to post your own comments and/or ideas in the forums.
If you haven't done so already, please sign-up to receive the ListServ through the link on the left.
